  • Why doesn't KANDY have it's own showroom(s)?

We do! It’s YOUR HOME! KANDY believes that you deserve the opportunity to view your product options exactly where they’re going to be used… in your home! Different lighting results in different-looking colours. Showroom or store lighting is usually a different “temperature” than the lighting outdoors or in our homes, and this can result in unpleasant surprises once you see the product in your home for the first time. So, we come to you with our samples in tow. The KANDY brand is also built on personalized, professional and no-hassle service. So we come to you.

About the products

  • Will my condo board/strata council have to approve KANDY Outdoor flooring?

KANDY’s outdoor flooring solutions fits within strata and condo rules because:

    1. the outdoor flooring is not attached to the permanent structure in any way
    2. it does not contribute to water pooling because it allows water and small debris to fall through and wash away, and
    3. it allows air circulation around each tile to keep surfaces dry.

However, we recommend you consult your condo’s by-laws before installation just to be sure. If there were a question of visual uniformity, KANDY would be pleased to provide the strata council or condo board with a free estimate to have all balconies or patios transformed uniformly.

  • Won't this outdoor flooring break my condo/strata rules?

No, it should not break any strata or condo rules since the outdoor flooring is not attached to the permanent structure in any way. It does not contribute to water pooling because it allows water and small debris to fall through and wash away, and it allows air circulation around each tile to keep surfaces dry. However, we recommend you consult the by-laws before installation just to be sure. If there were a question of visual uniformity, KANDY would be pleased to provide the strata council or condo corp. with a free estimate to have all balconies or patios transformed uniformly.

  • I have a rooftop patio/deck with torch-on (or mod-bit, or EPDM) on it. Do you have a product suitable for this?

Most of our current products are suitable with an additional layer of material put down to protect the membrane.

  • How much maintenance do your products require?

It depends on the product you choose, the specific areas exposure to elements,  and on your personal level of comfort around cleanliness. Generally, since the flooring is outside, all products will need to be cleaned periodically simply because of the elements. You may also choose also to apply a sealant on the granite and composite to prevent staining and a UV stabilizer on the hardwood which helps with colour retention.

Check out our cleaning and maintenance page or contact us for more information.

  • How do your outdoor flooring tiles stay down on windy days if they're not affixed?

KANDY Outdoor flooring’s floating outdoor flooring solutions are not prone to wind lift. The open profile of the tiles, with gaps between the upper slats and the grid-type construction of the bases, allows air to circulate fully around the tiles. This means the tiles aren’t a solid buffer for the wind to disturb. As well, with individual tile weights ranging between 2 and 7 pounds per tile, once interlocked their collective weight prevents shifting.

  • What conditions does my balcony/patio/deck have to meet in order for your products to work?

We haven’t yet met a condo balcony surface we didn’t like. However, there are three main conditions that need to be met for our outdoor flooring solutions to work. The surface should:

    • Be solid
    • Be relatively flat, and
    • Drain properly.

Still have questions about this? Contact us.

  • I'm looking for ways to add value to my condo. Does my balcony/patio/deck make a difference to market value?

It does. Buyers will be more interested if you’re selling. It will help differentiate your condo from the others on the market, and it will create more visual appeal. KANDY’s outdoor flooring also protects your current surface, potentially reducing the need for future maintenance and repairs. And if you’re not selling, a KANDY treatment will make you happy!

  • Do I have to treat or stain the deck tiles?

We do not recommend any staining or painting of KANDY’s exotic hardwoods, because they are too dense and won’t absorb these products. Our hardwood flooring will fade naturally when exposed to the sun. Annual re-application of a UV stabilizer will slow this process down, and will in fact help bring back the original colour. You may choose to let your hardwoods fade naturally, or periodically apply an solution to keep it supple and hydrated.

For our granite and composite products you may choose also to apply a sealant to prevent staining from things like oil or red wine etc.

Check out our cleaning and maintenance page or contact us for more information.

  • I don't own my condo and don't want to spend money fixing up someone else's investment.

No problem! The deck tiles are easily removed and you can take them with you when you leave. Because they require no glue, grout or nails and are not in any way “affixed” to the balcony surface, you will leave the space exactly as you found it and enjoy your flooring in your new condo!

  • Do you provide product warranties?

Yes. Download KANDY’s Warranty document here.

  • Are your products environmentally friendly?

Yes. Our composite products contain as much as 95% recycled materials and the bases are themselves recyclable. Many of our exotic hardwoods are farmed specifically for our outdoor flooring tiles and as much material as possible is used either in tile construction or in providing fuel for drying houses. All of our products are long lasting, high quality materials that help combat overflowing landfills – you’re simply not taking our tiles there as quickly as you would those “other” products, because ours simply last so long.

  • What happens when one tile gets damaged/stained/broken?

It’s a beautiful thing. Because our deck tiles are interlocking, you can easily replace one tile at a time for any reason, if necessary. We always leave a few extras for such occasions.

  • If I move can I take the flooring with me?

    Yes.

  • How do I care for my new outdoor flooring?

It depends on the product you’ve chosen and on your own personal standards for cleanliness. Check out our cleaning and maintenance page for more information.
